It wasn’t like there were any bodies dropping. Not even a mysterious disappearance. Only vague rumors of a forest where people reported seeing the dead.

“— those stinkin’ fags,” his dad had laughed then, shook his head in amusement and clapped his hand on Colin’s shoulder. He kept telling his story, something about those stinkin’ fags, and didn’t notice the way Colin didn’t say another word until they got back to the house.
Now, about a decade later, Colin thinks he can still hear his dad’s voice in the back of his head.
Stinkin’ fag echoes after him in the locker room. It chases him away from the casual touches that his teammates shower each other with. It suffocates him every time he’s pressed against a dank bathroom wall in a shady bar with shit lighting. It haunts him in the mornings when he crawls out of a stranger’s bed.
