Summary
There’s a snap. It’s not one outside, it’s not one inside. Somehow, it goes deeper than that. It goes beyond the wall of pain coursing through his body like a jagged knife running from his skull down his spine.
Cats’ eyes reflect in the shadows of a covered alleyway, in the darkness of the U.S.J.’s broken lights, in the tenebrous future of training turned disaster; the second Oboro moves, a twitch of his finger or the reach of his arm, eyes appear in the misted form. Red glares; cameras watching him; eyes in places they should not be.
He does not say it. He does not breathe it. If his mouth were to move in correlation with the name, he may manifest it into reality, twist the fate that has been set.
But as much as he doesn’t want to say it, it can’t stop him from thinking it too loudly.
Shouta.
Or: Oboro Shirakumo survived, but Shouta Aizawa did not.

Black hair dirty and tangled, clumps missing from where it had been pulled to move him around; chest heaving as he frantically pulled in breaths.
But that wasn’t what made Toshinori pause, wasn’t what made him sick to his stomach and use every ounce of his will to keep up his smile.

The fan’s hands are shaking, from nerves mostly, and a question sits in the throat, willing itself to be spoken despite the fear.“I’m quirkless,” the fan says whose hands will never spark up, who will never have wings out of the back, who can’t even change eye color. “But I’m smart and I’m strong and I’m brave. I want to be a hero. Can I?”
Midoriya Izuku does not become the first quirkless hero.
This doesn't mean that he doesn't have a hand in helping that hero come about.
