Summary
Early one the morning on July 4th, 2025, Jack is too anxious to sleep. He self-soothes by waking Robby up with sex then making him breakfast.
Jack laid in the darkness, his eyes trained on Robby’s sleeping form as it rose and fell with his breaths. Alive, that’s what that meant. Robby was alive. Jack was a doctor and knew that there were many ways to be alive, to check for it, but breath was the least intrusive way he had at that moment.
Usually Jack’s fingers found their way to the carotid or the radial, slipped down to the femoral, the comforting pulse of Robby’s life lulling him to sleep. But on nights when Robby was twitchy, his sleeping mind would brush Jack’s anxious fingers away like they were an irritation or, if Jack was lucky, grab his hand to clutch it to his chest.
Robby was twitchy tonight, and Jack was not so lucky.

Summary
Jack knew Robby was seeing Dennis. He could tell. He knew Robby better than anyone else, he knew what Robby was like in bed, he knew what he liked. But Dennis... the student was a total wildcard. Jack imagined it when he was laying in bed, picturing them together. He just *had* to know.
Asking Robby who said to ask Dennis... who then said to just come and see...AKA: Dennis is Robby's puppy and wants Jack to come play with him. Jack always liked puppies. Dennis is a wet mess of a praise obsessed dog. And both men love it.

Three months after PittFest, Robby is still dealing with the aftermath as he continues running the ER. Langdon is back from rehab, Jack is back to day shift, and the med students are being suspiciously nosy.
As the winter holidays approach, he tries to balance running the ER while dealing with what happened to he and Jack after being on the roof together back in September. He tries to work through things in therapy but the forced proximity to Jack only fuels the spiral in his mind about what they are (and what they aren't.)

Summary
“What if we just don’t talk, Jack.”
He says it quietly, almost lost in the wind except those words could be flung at Jack from the other end of a continent and he’d still catch them. Robby’s eyes are massive, big and brown and sad, filled with grief and longing, and he’s leaning in, asking with his body if not with outright words, and this, this Jack knows how to do.
