Summary
The heavy bass is making the oil-puddles shiver. Arthur leans against the wall, watching with a lazy eye as the puddles of filthy, iridescent water dance. Lines of neon jittering across their surface, pounding in time with the music, some garbage iridium synth track with too many drops that makes the whole alley vibrate, reverberating in his cyberware.
It sure as shit ain't good music, but the club is eating it up. Arthur supposes he should just be glad that he's not inside. He leans back, fitting his cigarette to his lips. A slow drag in, and then out.
Arthur holds his cigarette out - offering.
Eyes flick his way, glowing gold in the dark. His companion tilts his head, a silent refusal.

Summary
A late night hunt goes awry when Arthur and Charles are chased across the tracks cutting through the border of the Heartlands and Lemoyne, when a ghostly train barrels right into, or rather, through them. Somehow, they find themselves separated and ten years in the past.
Arthur finds himself looking after a teenage Charles, who's more of an angry, scrawny kitten than the calm, skillful hunter he knows so well.
On the other end, Charles comes face to face with a young Arthur who is smug, cocky, and a flirt.

“Herr Strauss,” Arthur greets, teeth gritted, plastering a fake smile onto his face. “How goes your money lendin’ business?”
“Ah, Herr Morgan.” Strauss turns on the rock, beady eyes swivelling around to peer up at him behind his spectacles. “It’s going swimmingly. As I like to say, Herr Morgan, there exists not a debtor who is unable to pay, only a debtor who is unwilling to pay. A little prod is all that is needed!”
Arthur sighs. “Okay,” he says, ready to confront the inevitable. “Well, do you need me to… prod anyone for you?”
“Ah! Not right now, Herr Morgan, not right now,” Strauss says. Arthur looks at him, confused. “As I said, swimmingly! I gave Herr Smith a list of debtors a few days back and he’s managed to get the money from all of them. Efficient work, that man does, though that leaves none for you, I’m afraid.”

In which Arthur dies, lives, and almost dies again at the shock of it. And he swears that this time, in his future, he will not make the mistakes of his past.

It’s a bit childish, he thinks. But with Charles’s hand in his, he finds it difficult to keep his hands still.
He can feel each knuckle beneath the pads of his fingers, knuckles hardened and covered in thick calluses from all those decades of rough living. Even without looking he knows that Charles has pretty fingers - yes, pretty, he thinks - and they are long, defined, strong.
Even with the scars and rough skin that mars the back of his hand, his palms are always warm and soft, and it’s intimate, in a way simply holding hands shouldn’t be, whenever Arthur thinks too pointedly about the way the heat from Charles’s hand seeps into his own palm where they touch.

Charles begins typing, uncharacteristically slowly, and Arthur decides that there’s quite enough of that.
“Hey,” he says, walking over and kneeling in front of the sofa where Charles sits, putting a hand over the keyboard. “Charles, darling. Can your work wait till tomorrow?”
Charles blinks at him - the tired sort of blinking that makes Arthur’s heart ache. “I have an email I gotta reply to today.”
“Okay,” Arthur says soothingly. “Send that email and leave everything else for tomorrow, alright? I want you to just rest, today. Catch up on sleep. Relax.”
“…Okay,” Charles relents, leaning forward to kiss Arthur, his lips and words soft. Arthur can still smell the faint residue of his tea.

Charles just shakes his head.
“What, do you want me on top of you?” Arthur laughs, hefting one knee up onto the bed and prodding at Charles’s thigh, trying to make space for himself.
Charles looks at him for a moment, then reaches up, arms open wide, in an unmistakable gesture that says, yes.

Summary
There were two men, ever since his awakening, whom V couldn't quite figure out.
One was Ishmael, a faceless ghost whom he wasn't sure even was real and whom he knew nothing of, yet felt laid bare in front of. Countless nights he would dream of the blood and fire that lit up the Cyprus night sky, of warm, bandaged hands pressed into his shoulders and the name Ahab called out by a voice that was all too familiar but couldn't recognise.
The other was the man who stood in front of him now, with a lost look on his face as DD sniffed then pawed excitedly at his legs and almost dislodging his knee pads, who then bent and awkardly smoothed out the fur on the top of DD's fluffy head, pulling off white surgical gloves to do so. DD barked happily, tail wagging so fast that it batted against V's thigh. DD was always on guard around those whose scent he didn't recognise; he must smell familiar somehow. V had no clue who he was.
(Venom Snake gets hurled back nine years, and comes face to face with not only the man who sold the world, but the one who tries to save it too.)
