Summary
First in a series of one-shots inspired by hitting shuffle on my S3 Polin playlist.
'It had been announced in that morning’s Lady Whistledown that the ton could expect the imminent proposal of marriage from Lord Debling to one Miss Penelope Featherington.
And who’s fault was it but entirely his own?'

“Shall we get into bed?” he asks, at length, breaking the kiss.
“Not yet. I want to get a good look at you first,” she says. “The lighting is better over here.”

Summary
"Who in blazes is that?" he asks Anthony and Benedict, his voice sharp for a reason he can't identify.
"Who?"
"The man Penelope is dancing with."
"Edward Lancaster," Anthony says, looking to where Colin is rudely, openly pointing. "No title, and his father's a merchant, but he's fairly wealthy."
"She can do better," Colin says, sipping his punch, which doesn't have enough gin in it for his liking. Someone at this bloody cotillion must have a flask he can take a nip from.
"You don't even know the man," Benedict says.
"He looks like a git," Colin says. His stomach feels weird. Tight. Twisty.
"What do you care?"
"She's my friend and her father's dead, someone has to look out for her." Yes, that was it. This new feeling is protectiveness. Naturally.
**
Colin returns from Greece and finds that Penelope has a suitor. On an unrelated note, he wants to punch something.
