"Huh?" Kanade's face lights up - the emotion in her face torn between embarrassment and affection. Her eyes can narrowly track down the detail of a soft pink spreading through her cheeks. "Saki... told you that?"

To Mafuyu, love is an unfamiliar emotion. She doesn't usually acknowledge the concept of love, nor anything diverging from it. The only kind of love she'd felt was a familial love, that would constantly scratch and scar her heart, whilst romantic attraction felt foreign to her, in between all the emotional strife occupying her headspace.
Yet, after an unknown feeling of bitter envy flares up when Kanade begins to get more 'affectionate' with someone, it trickles into her sleeping mind.

After her mother's death and her father's collapse, Kanade learned to exist in the spaces between. Between hospital visits, between compositions, between the slow hours of 3 AM and the gray light of dawn. She told herself she was healing. She told herself she had found purpose in saving Mafuyu, family in the empty SEKAI, and gentleness in the way she now visits her mother's grave without pain twisting her face.
She was lying.
