She squeezed her eyes shut. “Um. I’m...I’m kind of in trouble, and I...maybe - maybe you could help?”
It was humiliating to have to ask, and her throat tightened, expecting - she didn’t know what. He wasn’t cruel, but some excuse perhaps, it was late and bad weather and -
