    Summary

A few months after the boys return from the States and have fallen back into their normal case-solving ventures, they haven't had to deal with any cases involving Witches. This changes, though, when a client needs them to retrieve a spell book for her from one. Edwin and Charles feel a little apprehensive at first, given their past dealings with Esther, but they take it anyway. They believe the case to be pretty straightforward until pushed-down feelings and memories threaten to get in the way.

    Or:

Charles is still trying to figure things out after Edwin's confession in Hell, and a case with a witch forces him to confront that and his past traumas.

    Summary

Charles sighs, his shoulders slumping. “It’s just— I need to ask you something, and I don’t think you want to talk about it, is the thing. And I don’t wanna make you talk about something you don’t want to, and I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, but I think I need to talk about it.”

Edwin considers Charles’ words, and together with his frazzled appearance and the way he is holding his hand, he draws a conclusion. Something he wouldn’t want to talk about, indeed. “Do you wish to ask me about Hell?”

But Charles shakes his head, and says, “Not exactly, no. Not about Hell, but about… what you told me there. On the stairs.”

    Ah.

Well. That is… much worse than discussing his 73 years and one day of unending torment.

Charles is still holding his hand.

Or: the boys have a talk.

    Summary

“A deal. You pretend to be my boyfriend for a few weeks, show up at my house, escort me to social functions and such. Your overall person, manner and opinions should be enough to truly scandalise my parents. You will only need to be yourself, only less... charming.”
Charles gave him a bright grin. “You think I’m charming?”
Edwin ignored him. “And I will act all smitten with you. When they offer you the money to break up with me – and rest assured, throwing money at problems is their only way of handling anything – you will take it. I shall be horribly heartbroken to make them feel guilty and any subsequent romantic partner who is a bit more... mellow than you will be quite welcome.”
Charles stared at him, unsure of how he could’ve ever thought of Edwin Payne as innocent. “Damn... you are a conniving little bastard, aren’t you?”

    -

Charles Rowland's first impression of Edwin Payne can be summerized as privileged, rich and aloof – also incredibly pretty, but that’s besides the point. However, when Edwin presents him with a scheme to piss off his conservative parents and get some money out of them in the process, Charles can’t resist the siren call of causing mayham for some Tories.

“As you know,” the cat speaks, “this guy is a love wizard. So, in order for the door to open, you have to prove that you love each other.”

“And how are we supposed to do that?” Charles asks, next to him. Edwin swears the cat seems to jut out its chin.

“Easy,” it says. “The door is enchanted. All you need to do is kiss, and then if there’s true love in the kiss, it will open.”

    Summary

Edwin had known, from the very beginning, that this day would come. Maybe Charles would decide being a detective was not that fun after all, maybe he’d get curious about what afterlife had in store for him. Maybe he’d get bored of Edwin. But it’d always been a sure thing, in Edwin’s mind, that this could not last forever.
He’s still not ready for it when the day finally arrives.

Or; the Case of the Petrified Poltergeist

Or; Edwin has a bit of breakdown.
