the image of gavi sticking his fingers in pedri’s mouth and the description of him pressing down on the back molars and telling pedri he wants him to keep his mouth open ‘just like this’ or whatever the specific line is like literally made me sit up. that part of the prose has since then been rattling around in my brain like a freaking pin ball!!!

"Three seconds of the squeeze later, Gavi lets out a small laugh and looks up, his eyes pleading and wide, darting away when Pedri tries to hold the eye contact. “Kiss?” he says, and Pedri chuckles before pressing their lips together. A quick and comforting kiss, lips caressing lips in greeting; there’s time for more later. When he pulls back, Gavi shifts in his arms and sighs, then says with one breath, “It went ok but you have to promise you won’t be mad.”

"Gavi, having earlier chucked his hoodie, was complaining mildly that he was cold, but Pedri knew it was more of an excuse for Gavi to shuffle closer and get into his favorite position, curled up against Pedri’s side, face half hidden, the body contact with Pedri recharging him like a drained battery. Like Gavi often did after games, being pressed like this against Pedri calmed something sharp and ineffable in him, and even without talking about it, Pedri knew that all the excitement and difficulties of the last few weeks, all the kilometers he’d flown from Japan to the Netherlands to Madrid to Seville to Tenerife, all the minutes he’d run on the field from the friendly to trainings to the final, all the words he’d had to force out of himself, calm and gracious and smiling no matter what clawed inside of him, meant that Gavi needed to recharge in the worst way."
Joined by Gavi in Tenerife for their summer holiday, Pedri is startled to come face to face with evidence of their obvious affection for each other, seen through the eyes of his cousin.

Pedri feels the early summer sun on his skin, can hear the flip flop of Gavi’s languid footsteps following his own. It had been a joke at first, to come to his hometown together during their summer holidays. Pedri had smiled his placid smile, eyes warm and sparkling, and it had only taken him one story about the pranks he and his brother used to play on each other in the natural pools on the coast to wipe any ideas of Los Angeles or Abu Dhabi from Gavi’s mind.
