It was one spring afternoon, while he was picking basil, that Felix noticed the first signs. His fingers trembled as he plucked the leaves, and sweat ran down his temples even without the heat. He looked out at the forest and, for the first time in years, felt fear.
Because there, among the shadows of the fig trees, two yellow dots shone fixedly on him.
They didn't blink.
They didn't move.

Sparse video calls, cut short by tiredness or the hustle and bustle of a life that was now happening on the other side of the world — Felix's face always illuminated by the blue light of the screen, his eyes heavy from sleepless nights over sketches and fabrics, his voice sometimes fading away in the delay of the connection, as if the universe itself insisted on reminding them of what separated them.
