It was one spring afternoon, while he was picking basil, that Felix noticed the first signs. His fingers trembled as he plucked the leaves, and sweat ran down his temples even without the heat. He looked out at the forest and, for the first time in years, felt fear.

Jeongin knew Minho was right. Changbin and Jisung loved Felix. They would never let any harm come his way. But he still didn’t like it. They were both omegas. They couldn’t protect Felix the way he could. “Can he come home tomorrow?” His voice sounded defeated.
“Maybe. We will have to wait and see how you are feeling tomorrow first,” Minho explained.
A ‘maybe’ wasn’t good enough for him. His desire to be with Felix was unfathomable. Just the thought of being away from his omega for too long made him feel uneasy.

“Hi,” Chan speaks softly, voice tender and soft.
The omega looks up at him, clearly shocked and bewildered by the situation. But then a giggle bubbles up from their chest and to Chan’s surprise, the omega reaches up to caress his cheek. They gaze at Chan in wonder, taking all of the alpha in, as if they can’t believe this is happening. Chan still can’t believe it himself.
“Well, this is one hell of an introduction, I'm Felix.” Chan blinks in surprise, not expecting the deep and rich voice that leaves those pretty heartshapped lips, but he finds that it fits his mate perfectly. It’s lovely and soothing, the alpha is instantly enthralled.
“I’m Chan, and I guess we’re mates now, huh?” The alpha chuckles and Felix does the same.
“I guess so,” the omega snorts, but nudges Chan teasingly. “This is actually insane, both of us getting completely scent drunk and fucking in the woods before we even knew each other’s names. This is completely unheard of.”

Summary
Phukan's cousin Thanya had often talked about how she wished to find her 'true mate' one day, just like her parents had found one another. The concept of true mates was very romantic and Phukan did envy happy and loving relationships, such as that of his aunt and uncle and the one his own parents had had once upon a time.
His own feelings were more complicated however. Of course he wanted to find love. But at the same time, he was afraid of losing it. He hadn't just witnessed the happy times after all. He had also witnessed how a deep and strong love had destroyed his mother after his father's passing. To the point that she'd had to virtually flee the country. And she had never been the same since, becoming more and more of a stranger to Phukan with every passing day.
The fates answered in kind. They gave Phukan a fated person, a 'true mate'. However, Phukan didn't not know - couldn't remember - who they are. It had happened out of the blue. One morning, he woke up a marked omega. However, there was no alpha in sight. And even as timed passed, no alpha stepped forward to claim him.
Was Phukan meant to live life as a solitary and yet bound omega? A lonely rather than a lone wolf?
