Kou has always lived his life the same way, loud, bright, and without complaint. He attends school each day, shrugs the teasing of classmates with a laid back smile, and spends his evenings training with his older brother. Between homework, bruises, and awkward attempts at conversation, he tells himself that eventually he’ll make tons of new friends.
He’s used to being overlooked.
He’s not used to being watched.
When a new boy appears in class, pale, silent, and unfamiliar the teachers don’t question the sudden transfer. The students flock to introduce themselves to him but, Kou can’t shake the feeling that something about the boy is… wrong. As if every smile is practiced before it’s worn.
And sometimes when Kou looks away he swears the boy is closer than he was a second ago.
Kou has always believed everyone deserves a friend.
He just never imagined befriending something that might not be alive. -
