If you asked Mel how she would like to be proposed to, she wouldn’t have a very coherent answer for you. There wasn’t a Pinterest board saved to her laptop or journal entries from childhood about floral arrangements. She, of course, understood that reality never held up to fiction. She just distantly knew that with the right person, almost anything would be perfect.
However, Mel would most definitely not describe the restaurant she currently sat in. And with perfect clarity, she knew that when she was proposed to, there would not be a knot in her stomach. No unshakeable guilt and dread mixing in her gut.

“Your spin things are looking good, Ice Princess.” Her toe pick scraped against the ice in an ugly noise as she whipped her head around to the booming voice. She reached up to her face to right her glasses.
“Twizzles.” The correction was instinctive and she winced at the defensive edge in her voice. Her heart hammered loudly in her chest, but thankfully the flush on her cheeks could be blamed on the cold air and exertion.
“Well then.” Langdon ducked his head a little as he grinned shamelessly. That same toothy smug smile he made after a slapshot he knew was good. “Your twizzles are looking good, you don’t wobble at the end.”
