What Gavin cannot deal with is Connor’s replica; prissy, cold-eyed, and with a mouth that Gavin doesn’t know whether to punch or take between his teeth. The RK900 model has been assigned as his partner for the foreseeable future.

It's late summer, and the AC is broken, and they're bored. Even if the air conditioning isn't working, it's still cooler twenty feet under the city in Purgatory than it is on the surface where everyone is cooking sunny side up on the pavement. More money than they’d ever seen in their entire lives was poured into Purgatory, and here they were, like they were still living back at the church. Except, at least the church had a window unit they could stand in front of.
