“Phainon of Aedes Elysiae,” Caenis says, her voice quieting the rousing whispers and murmurs around the room, “you’ve come to honour an agreement with the Council of Elders. In exchange for your presence and unquestioning cooperation, we will allow your group of Kremnoan refugees to seek shelter within Okhema’s benevolent walls until further notice.”
“One more condition,” he says, meeting Caenis’ gaze directly. A pair of smoke-amber feline eyes flash in his mind—and to give himself the courage he needs, Phainon tries to pretend those eyes are what he’s looking at instead. “None of the other Chrysos Heirs can know about this matter.”
Phainon's negotiations with the Council of Elders goes awry.

Summary
Mydei leans away from the dromas at the sight of him. He looks the same as he always does: scowl in place, dressed and armored in Kremnoan attire. Yet in Phainon’s preheat vision, Mydei is achingly handsome—sleek lines, sharp angles, and a ruggedness from years on the battlefield.
Phainon’s thighs grow wet.
“What took you so long?” Mydei snaps. “We’re heading to a negotiation, not a field trip. No need to bring all your outfits."
“What if I want to impress the stakeholder?” Phainon jests, adjusting his tunic to hide his lower torso. He falters, however, when he notices Mydei’s sharp hazel eyes fixed on the slick staining his front. For a moment, Phainon feels raw and exposed, shame creeping up his neck. Mydei’s breathing pauses, the pace slowing to something deeper and more indulgent, before he looks away.
“We have a long journey ahead,” Mydei murmurs. “Pace yourself.”
Phainon sets out on a mission with Mydei, determined to maintain the facade of being a beta despite his preheat. But then his full-blown heat strikes at the worst possible time.
Mydei takes care of him.

“Hmph, I’m not a lightweight, I just personally dislike the taste of alcohol,” The other chimed in.
“Pfft–right, because it’s too bitter for you,” Phainon commented, receiving a glare from the prince. It would’ve been threatening if it weren’t for the fact that the man in front of him was downing on his cake like a child who hasn’t eaten in decades, giving himself a generous bite of pancake each time. The knight snickered while Mydeimos did not say a word. The silence from the crowned prince was a signal that the ongoing back and forth had ended and Phainon knew Mydei lost to this small banter.

Five times Phainon teases and the one time Mydei teases back or alternately, Mydei and Phainon being whipped for each other five times and the one time they took action.

“Now’s your cue, De,” Trianne whispers at him from in between her tiny hands, like it wasn't damn obvious his fate was sealed the moment they all looked at him.
“Splendid idea. Leave it to the homicidal maniac to be his caretaker; what could possibly go wrong?”
Alternatively: A cursed Phainon can't speak, see or hear. Mydei is tasked with taking care of him until everything's sorted out.
