He knows Ghost by the particular knives he’s so fond of, beautifully lethal in their execution. He knows Ghost by his ability to keep his footfalls feather-light in combat, yet pridefully heavy around base, announcing himself on purpose.

The man pauses, looks Hans over with what could only be described as amusement. “Sir Henry Kobyla,” he grins, like the noble prick that he is. “Lord of Skalitz.”
Birds have woken up and started to chirp their morning songs. The rain finally slows, drops clinging to leaves and odd blade of grass before they drip lazily to the ground. Hans wants to strangle the nobleman in front of him.

Henry strokes the side of his horse. There is no scent of ash on the wind. “With Pa, at first. Then he sent me to Radzig’s castle. Then I ran.”
“Yes but- but where were you, exactly, when your parents were slain?” Hans says.
“I’m not–” Henry looks at Hans’ profile. He can feel his brow knitting together, “What?”

After Suchdol, after siege, it seems almost normal to have restless dreams. Nightmares plague a mind challenged by the horrors of war, and Henry finds that he and Hans are plagued quite often.

Henry opens his eyes. It’s cold outside, or there’s a fire in the mantle inside, or there’s revelry downstairs at the Devil’s Den, or a warm body beside him until it’s not there anymore. A story inspired by the Somnambulant negative perk.

AU - Henry dies in his duel against Erik
Hans could admit it here, where no one stood ready to prod his dignity for weakness: he missed Henry. Missed him with the helpless ache of a child left alone in an unfamiliar place. Three moonfulls since, grief had made its den of him; lingering where it pleased and inventive as ever in finding new ways to make him feel the fool.
Hans can’t let go. Erik brings back the sword and asks for the noose.

He slips through a gap in the ruined palisade that must have once served as the village’s outer bailey, and a wide green linden tree rises into view. Like an angel amongst its neighbors, it stands bedecked in creamy yellow flowers, cascading in a full midsummer bloom.
None of this should be blooming while he still needs a mantle to warm his shoulders. It's not right. It's not natural. It's-
"Are you lost?" A voice rises on the pollen heavy breeze. It's soft and low but Hans still startles, sword popping free from its scabbard like a skittish tomcat's claws.
But the man that's snuck up behind him is no bandit he's ever seen. He's barely a man at all.
Young lord Capon ventures into the woods one fine spring morning and the forest returns something different back to Rattay.
