I don’t know” the nurse shook her head with puzzlement “I’m sorry. I think you will have to wait for the police to tell you the full thing once the investigation is concluded”
“S’anyone else awake?” they wondered
“Aside from you? Four others” the nurse nodded “Most people had a sort of… deactivated state? I think that’s how the engineers called it. Except for six of you”
“Wait… What do you mean? How were our states activated but only five of us are awake?” they asked as the panic began to settle in their stomack once again.
“One of the girls had had a suicide attempt a few years ago. It seems the people of C&A… the farm. It seems they managed to save her and keep her in stasis but she’s still in a coma” the nurse explained “I remember reading of her attempt in the papers back in the day… Poor thing jumped in front of a moving truck”

Lightbulb can see the tension in every one of their muscles from here. It’s unfair, still, the way that they can’t seem to catch a break, can’t have one nice thing without fighting tooth and nail for it—
“Come here,” Lightbulb murmurs, still sort of engrossed in her own thoughts. She didn’t even realise she had said it aloud until Paintbrush was looking up, staring in that way—head tilted to the side, patient as anything—that means they want her to repeat herself. “Come over here,” She repeats, a little louder this time.
Paintbrush does so with little resistance, sidling up closer to Lightbulb’s side. Before they can take a moment to back away, Lightbulb slings an arm over their shoulder and brings them closer.

Summary
When Inanimate Insanity season 1 ends silently and without fanfare, Mephone 4 lacks the funding to create season 2, and the competitors fade off into the world back to their own lives.
But when a malicious force decides it's time for a new game to begin, they're suddenly ripped from their homes and forced to start a new in a far more hostile new world.

This is an AU where Mephone 4 did not generate the contestants, and they are just people who competed on an obscure competitor show that didn't hit the mainstream. It takes place post season 1, with season 2 contestants, but not in a contest manner.
For now this is written in the style of separate smaller one shots that focuses on a different story each chapter.
