“Give her a minute,” Una says, gripping Chapel’s elbow. “She’ll just lash out if you try to talk to her right now. Tell me...” She swallows thickly, trying to push through the haze of whatever chemicals this thing is pumping into her. She can feel the tendrils snaking down inside her body, flossing her ribs and feathering her lungs and all manner of other things as well. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s alarming. Like her body isn’t hers anymore, but a foreign, living, breathing thing. Una closes her eyes and thinks past the teeth, past the tentacles, past her concern for La’an and down into the deep of things. “Am I dying?”
“Nah,” Chapel says. “You’re just getting borrowed for the day.”
