“What are you-”
A large, thick tongue cut him off. The muscle snuck its way inside his open mouth, taking him by surprise. He’d never been so full, while feeling so empty at the same time. The creature pressed himself against Steve, cold hands roaming his body before sharp nails shredded his clothes.
A moan escaped his lips as they parted for a moment. He looked deep within the creature's eyes, and he knew what he was saying. Mate. He was taking Steve as his mate, and the linguistics expert was ready to give himself to the alien.

Steve is hired as a linguistics expert to figure out how to speak to an alien (Eddie Munson), only to wind up being its mate.

So naturally when Eddie first sees him, he's head over heels. And Steve has no clue what his day job is.
