Mo Ran tries to win over the new librarian at his university through his cooking. It goes well, up until someone else takes a page out of his book and starts to bring Chu Wanning food too.
Much to Mo Ran’s satisfaction, Chu Wanning starts with his food first. Mo Ran leans back in his chair and folds his arms over his chest, watching as Chu Wanning delicately vacuums the entire thermos worth of noodles.
“Was it good?” Mo Ran asks and Chu Wanning nods. The smallest smile tugs at the corner of his lips and Mo Ran almost sends himself over the moon when Chu Wanning says, “You’re a talented cook.”
The mood is quickly punctured by Chu Wanning pushing the cursed dish towards Mo Ran mere moments later.
“Have some,” he says, nodding towards Mo Ran's direct competition. “They’re not terrible.”
Mo Ran can’t help it. He looks at the container like it’s his mortal enemy.

Mu Qing coughs again, and blood splatters the ground. He whimpers when he sees it coat his hands.
Thin black marks encroach from his hairline to form designs around his temples. Feng Xin knows he doesn’t have the right to look at them. Not like this, not when they’re showing up involuntarily because Mu Qing is bleeding his strength and life out into the dirt.
“You’re so stupid,” Mu Qing says, but his eyes betray the visceral plea as he reaches out.
