Well, for the simple reason that he was currently lying in his bed, surrounded by multiples flowers of different shapes and colors.»
Or - Atsushi has Hanahaki disease and hide it from everyone until he can't hide it anymore. And Akutagawa really need to learn how to deal with his emotions properly rather than just ignoring the cause of said emotions.

Ever since Atsushi got badly injured after being ambushed on a mission— he felt like there were always eyes on him.
He knew he wasn't being simply paranoid.
Whoever was stalking him had put him to bed when he fell asleep while doing his paperwork, leaving washed dishes, finished printed paperwork, and a note.
But what kind of stalker does the opposite of harm?
Thankfully, Atsushi could put the worries aside as he was sent on another mission with Akutagawa, in a small town far away.

He brushes it all off—even when the instincts that screamed at him to protect his younger detective grew more and more restless.
