She quickly adds, “I'll see you soon, I love you.”

    Louis hears Lestat's smile through the phone. “I love you more. Je t'aime plus que tout au monde. Je passerai chaque seconde à attendre ton retour.”

    “You are so fucking dramatic.” Louis rolls her eyes and hangs up before Lestat can argue but her smile is wide when she slips her phone back in her pocket.

    Lestat’s eyebrow arched, his eyes dilating visibly. “Is this some kind of test?” He was trying so hard to be polite, Louis noted, keeping his hands to himself and dragging his gaze back to Louis’ eyes every time it dropped to his mouth or neck or wrists. Louis wished he’d stop.

    Again after three days, he means. But Louis isn’t going to point out how often he’s been breaking their separation arrangement in front of both their lawyers.

    Louis and Lestat are terrible at being married, but they may be even worse at staying divorced.
