He’s dead sometimes. Not all the time. In the middle of the night, in the middle of breakfast, Satoru will lose him—eyes glazed, shoulders slumped—before he comes back, bleary.
Terrifying, those little moments, although Satoru always plays them up. Our narcoleptic friend , he calls Suguru, raising his eyebrows at Shoko, who just looks tired. For his part, Suguru only seems faintly annoyed. It’s the loss of control he dislikes, undignified. He’s never been good with losing control.
It’s the coming back that matters, of course. What Suguru’s never been willing to do before.
It’s a start.
