Well, no. That’s not quite true. The first thing he really sees is New York City, shrinking down below him, as everything becomes smaller and bigger at the same time. But it’s the funny thing about shrinking—Esther had explained it to him once. As one gets smaller, new worlds open up to them, a vastness of cells and molecules unable to be experienced by the massive, plodding forms of everyday creatures.
