    “Yeah, Will here racks in all the tips with his cute face.” Lucas teased. Will’s face heated up. “Big hit with the older ladies, this one is.”

    “Oh really?” He asked, a cheeky grin pulling at his lips. His nose wrinkled at the bridge as he smiled, his face was dotted with freckles.

    “No, Lucas is- it’s only happened twice.” Will stammered, his face burning red.

    Lucas waved them off as he walked into the backroom. Will watched him leave before turning back to face the blonde boy.

    “Guess it’s happened three times now.” He said said, the corners of his lips quirked into a smile as he dropped his change into the tip jar. “See you around, Will.”

    It is the summer of 1988, Will and Lucas are slinging ice cream at Scoops Ahoy. And Will can't help but notice the cute Orange Julius worker who keeps on stopping by for ice cream.

There was the brush of her knuckles against his arm as she passed him in the shop, the knock of her knee against his as they were sitting at the card table, both her palms on his face as she thumbed at a smear of grease on his forehead. JJ could remember them all. They played in a streamlined loop in his mind when he was zoned out or too high or trying and failing to fall asleep.
