Summary
The new house is too clean. Too quiet. Buck drops his keys on the counter just to hear them hit something, but the sound dies too fast. It’s not like the Diaz house, where there was always noise, laughter, life. He’s getting good at pretending it doesn’t ache, but after Chris and Eddie boomeranged back from Texas something was knocked out of place within him on the rebound.
He didn't duck in time.
Or, Buck starts faltering when Eddie touches him. Eddie notices.

It’s Buck who gets shot on the call this time. Nothing so severe as the time Eddie got shot—just a graze of his shoulder, a rip of his LAFD-issued t-shirt. But enough. Enough that there’s a small spray of blood—just a few drops. Eddie’s standing close enough, turned toward Buck, laughing at something Buck just said, mouth open. He can taste the copper.

Summary
It’s late, almost ten Nursey thinks, though not so late that if the game had gone better the team wouldn’t have been a bit livelier. As it is, the team bus is dark, half the guys now asleep, the other half decidedly not in a talking mood, earbuds firmly in place. Nursey’s spent the first half of the drive trying to talk Chowder down. Chowder’s finally agreed he won’t climb out the bus window and fling himself onto the interstate, but that’s probably less Nursey’s pep talk and more that he’s finally noticed the way Ford keeps glancing anxiously toward the back of the bus where an icy cold Maine frost is hunched.
