Summary
Her hairs are standing at the back of her neck, her skin prickles all over.
She dresses quickly, her heart now pounding harder in her chest. Maybe she’s having a heart attack.
When she exits the laundry room dressed someone grabs her harshly, an arm wrapping around her neck. She’s pushed into the wall hard and she whimpers. Her body is caged in by someone much larger and stronger, her back against someone’s chest. She tries to claw at the arm pinning her by the throat, knowing the person could strangle her easily.
“I thought I was goin’ crazy.”
She thinks her entire world ends. It’s the man from the store, who’s helped her more than anyone ever has. And this is how she’s been treating him. Repaying by breaking into his home, stealing his food, using his personal space as her own.
She thinks now the devil wants to collect.

“Are you headed to LA for business or pleasure,” he asked.
Will was relieved to see that the rude man’s shoulders were pointed toward the aisle seat. After perhaps a second too long, the man on the aisle said “neither” in a neutral, clipped way. And Will detected an accent somewhere in the word – the r was much softer than an American might say it. “I am not going to LA at all, merely transferring planes.”
“Are you headed to Hawaii for that CSI conference then?”
“CSI…” the man replied, confused but with no real curiosity behind the prompt.
“Well the stewardess said something about a forensics conference.”
“Ah yes,” came the velvety voice, “forensic psychology. Yes, I am attending that conference.”
“So what is that then, forensic psychology?”
“It’s the study of humans – why they do what they do.” The man paused for a moment, then added, somewhat pointedly: “Specifically, why they kill.”
