"He fancies you," she says bluntly, and Clara rolls her eyes.
"He does not," she insists. "He fancies basically every girl in school, and you know it."
"Technically, that includes you," Shannon teases, leaving Clara momentarily speechless.
"Shannon, we've known each other since we were in nappies; I really don't think he sees me like that," she settles on saying, and Shannon reluctantly lets it go. There was time to tackle their crushes later.

"Right, I'm coming out here to lay down the law; Brooke, didn't you tell them to shut it?" Tim asks, his arms crossed over his chest. Brooklyn glances back at him, and his face softens before directing his temper at the other two, "What the fuck is going on out here?"
"Shut up, Tim," Levi snaps, and Brooklyn closes her eyes for a brief second, trying to compose herself.
"Levi was kissing Cherry when I came out here," she fills in. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get some space. And Levi-"
She pauses, throwing a glare at him over her shoulder, "You can sleep on the sofa."
As Brooklyn slips past the two boys, Tim begins to lay into Levi, leaving her with a bittersweet warmth in her chest – yes, she was hurting, but someone had her back without question.

"Of course not," Emily tells him, shaking her head at him. He nods and turns to go down the corridor towards the bathroom, but she can't help but call him back, "Did you have a good day?"
Something flickers in his eyes, maybe him noticing that neither of them had asked for a while, and he hesitates before answering, "Yeah, it was fine."
He leaves then, and she feels like she can't breathe – there isn't anything specifically wrong with their relationship, but everything is wrong and she has no idea what to do about it.
Emily can feel it coming, the end of their relationship, and it's destroying her slowly. And Jake? He hasn't even noticed.

Gary wakes from his sleep, cold. It's not summer, it's mid-winter, and he's living in an apartment alone, dreaming of a life where they worked out. He picks up her phone, and does the thing everyone warns him against – looking her up on social media.
Her photos are beautiful, they always had been, but there's a man in them, one he hadn't seen before. They're holding hands in one, her eyes full of emotion, and in another, she has her head thrown back with laughter, him watching on in wonder.
Whoever he was, Jake something or other – he was a lucky man.
It's been years, but Gary can't seem to let her go.
