Summary
Bradley uses the moment while Jake is distracted to steal another sip of his wine. He’s just about to put the glass back down, when a muffled thunk rings out across the porch. He looks up, to see Jake standing in the middle of the porch, surrounded by blue and white shards of porcelain.
“Oh dear”, Ice says. He pushes his chair back and rises. “Careful, Jake, don’t step in the shards. Did you hurt yourself?”
Jake doesn’t move. And not because Ice told him not to.
Or, Jake learns that not all dads get mad when you drop a plate.
