We asked twenty strangers to kiss for the first time...
Eyes on Eddie, Buck applied the barest suggestion of pressure to Eddie’s waist, inviting him closer. The remaining distance between them disappeared. Their fronts brushed, cotton shirts rasping together.
Buck heard Eddie inhale shakily. He watched his eyes fall shut. He could almost feel the flutter of Eddie’s eyelashes against his own cheek.
Buck licked his lips. His heartbeat hammered against his breastbone. He couldn’t let himself overthink this. He could make it good.
He let go of Eddie’s waist and raised his hand, fitting his palm to Eddie’s jaw. Thumb resting next to Eddie’s ear, his fingers cupped his head, disappearing into the short strands of his hair.
He tipped Eddie’s head back the smallest of fractions as he leaned in to meet him.
Dipping his head low, tilting it to the side, Buck parted his lips and pressed his mouth to Eddie’s.

Summary
They were trapped.
Fire hadn’t broken through yet, but it was coming. Buck could feel the heat pushing in, wrapping around them like a warning. The smoke thickened, clawing at their throats, painting the walls with a haze of panic.
“So…” Eddie’s voice cut through the haze, rough around the edges but maddeningly calm. “You wanna talk about it now?”
Buck turned slowly, disbelief etched across every exhausted line of his face, and he hoped his deadpan glare said it all. He didn’t need to ask what Eddie was referring to.
No, he didn’t want to talk about how he accidentally told his best friend he loved him just hours earlier.
He’d rather let the fire take him.

“What, so you’re in love with him?”
The question hits him somewhere near his ribcage. Eddie has to actively use every part of his brain to respond, correctly. Without—saying anything crazy. “Buck, he’s a famous singer.”
...or, Eddie has a crush on Orville Peck, who totally does not look like Buck.
