Summary
"You think you know me just because you read a report about me but it's just a piece of paper. I'm more than that," Arms crossed over her chest, rising rapidly with her erratic breath, Raelle glared at the brunette in front of her.
Scylla had to agree. The report was just a piece of Raelle's story. Merely one event from her life that led her into this office. But Scylla didn't need the report to know Raelle. She didn't even need Raelle to tell her about herself. Because looking into her pale blue eyes was enough. She could see the faint veil now covering her irises that once were, undoubtedly, sparkling with life. But now they looked dull. And Scylla knew why. She knew that Raelle was haunted. Just like her.
Or, after she experienced a very traumatic event as a soldier in the army, Raelle had been ordered to see a therapist. Stubborn as she was, Raelle felt like she had absolutely no reason to talk to a stranger about something that, she claimed, she was over with. But the perceptive and piercing blue gaze of one Dr. Scylla Ramshorn might be enough to see right through her.

She reopened her eyes and looked down at her hand. She watched as her fingers started trailing over the fabric. She tried to take comfort in the touch but all she could feel was how cold the cover was. The warmth of Ava’s sleeping body long gone.
But when Beatrice looked over her shoulder, taking in the whole bed, she was hit with another wave of memories. Memories that brought her the warmth that she’d been missing. And, unconsciously, her fingers stopped moving and gripped the cover as if grasping onto the memory, not ready to let go of it. Pulling it close. Holding it close.

“I know.” Scylla whispered, rubbing a soft thumb against Raelle’s jawline. “I can break it, if you want.”
“No.” Raelle responded immediately, shaking her head against Scylla’s forehead. “Leave it open. I want to feel all of it. All of you.”
