Summary
Homelessness is a fact of life for Josh. When he was twelve, he and his family became homeless, and they've been living in their car ever since. They are only one of the ever-growing population of homeless families in central Florida.
The homeless life is new to Tyler and his previously-affluent family, who are now living day-to-day in a dirty motel. His first few days don't go very well.
And then he meets Josh.

Summary
Tyler was sad. He was hurt, confused, angry, and scared, too, but most of all, he was sad. He didn't know if it was because he had been stuck in the same town for his entire life or it it was something a bit more serious, but that little uncertainty didn't stop him from applying to colleges all throughout the country and going to the one the furthest away from where he grew up. It wasn't the best choice he had made in his life, but suddenly there's this kid that shows up who dyes his hair a different color almost every month, and maybe, just maybe, he's the cure to Tyler's, well, whatever it is.

Summary
Josh Dun is an anxiety-riddled teen who Tyler's never met before. Tyler is a semi-popular basketball kid who seems perfect.
Josh has a little(big) crush on Tyler. The problem is, Tyler's got a girlfriend - and no clue who Josh is.
That is, until they get tied together by a single, innocent biology assignment and a certain Brendon Urie who has his heart set on the two becoming a 'thing', and Tyler finds himself being drawn into Josh's own world of crazy friends, music and darkness.

When Tyler is seven years old, his parents sit him and all his siblings down and quietly tell them that there's going to be a new boy staying here, one a little older than Tyler.
Tyler does not react well to that.
Tyler isn't happy to play host to a foster kid. Josh is weird. He sees a there-ape-ist, he cries a lot, and Tyler's parents dote on him.
Tyler doesn't like his new foster brother.
