“You do know who I am, right?” Fatin asked, but her smile was uneven, almost hesitant if Leah didn’t know any better.
Leah wiped her wet hands on her jeans. “I spent the last nine hours on set with you. So, yeah, I do.”
“You just don’t seem particularly dazzled.”
“Maybe you’re not as dazzling as you think.”
Fatin screwed her eyebrows into an incredulous frown. “Are you kidding? This is my second all nighter this week, I’m glowing like a fucking burlesque dancer right now. The less sleep I get, the more I dazzle.”
Leah’s eye trailed over Fatin’s angular face and damp, wavy hair, her arms draped over the steering wheel, her dark skin clear and radiant even under the orange street lamp glow, and yeah, sleep deprivation shouldn’t look so good on anyone.
So Leah shrugged. “I did say maybe.”

“Oh, that’s kind of fucked up.” James’ nose wrinkles in distaste. “She added Luthor?”
“What?” Almost as soon as she asks, Lucy must already see the same thing he does on the page, because her contempt nearly mirrors his. “Oh, shit, she wasn’t on it last year. That’s a little… dense.”
Kara looks up. “Who?”
By the way Lucy and James’ eyes both flit up to look at her with equal expressions of apprehension, Kara knows the kind of affront she’s facing.
“Lena Luthor?” Lucy repeats slowly.
Kara shakes her head, still lost.
Before today, she never knew her name.

“I’m not sure what it is you’re looking to hear,” Adora says slowly, “but do you believe in ghosts?”
Catra’s scowl hardens even further. “Don’t. Don’t you dare go there.”
“All I mean is, from everything I’ve studied, this shouldn’t be possible. Either you're a princess of a faraway land that I don’t know about, which is highly unlikely, or…”
“Or what?” Catra snaps. “Are you trying to tell me you think I’m fucking dead?”

“It was nice of you to invite me to dinner,” Andrea said flatly, and she struggled to sound like she meant it. “But clearly it’s been a long time. So let’s drop the act. We don’t need to keep pretending like we’re excited to see each other, and that this reunion was long overdue, because clearly— clearly some things should just stay in the past. Right?”

It wasn’t until Adora collapsed into the backseat of the cab and went to pull out the address that she realized.
This was not her freaking phone.

“I’m the first face you saw after turning down a marriage proposal? That’s gotta count for something.”
That same defensive sense of preservation crept back up Dom’s neck. “Yeah, I guess you’re just symbolic of the end, then.”
“The end? Babe, give me some more credit than that.”
“Then what?”
“Maybe I’m your beginning.”

“Nah, you way over-tipped last night. This one’s on the house.”
Lena’s shoulders slump in mock exasperation. “Kara, don’t start with me.”
“I am absolutely starting with you.”
What a smug little shit, Lena thinks. But God is she cute. “You really don’t want to play this game.”
"Yeah? Maybe I do.”
It’s said so softly, so gently, and if this was one of Siobhan’s movies, they wouldn’t be talking about the money or drinks at all, they’d be talking about something clenching around Lena’s chest, something stifling, a loneliness that paralyzes her bones.
“Don’t blame me when you lose,” Lena says with a gentle upturn of her mouth, her voice low and crackling, leaving a fifty-dollar bill on the bartop before she turns away.
