She turned on her back and smushed the phone against her face. It kept ringing until it eventually went to voicemail. It’s been a shitty night and she just needs her. She couldn’t help if the first words she says to her are, “If you wanted to fuck someone so bad you should have just fucked me. Jeff wasn’t even a good lay. Shipman I fucking miss you. And I know you hate when I call you that but you deserve it.” She threw her phone into the distant corner of her mattress and buried herself in the pillows. She was too drunk to care. She didn’t regret it, not really, not until the next morning when she woke up feeling like her brain had been stuffed with cotton. Her head throbbed and she gulped down two aspirin pills that she always kept on her bedside. Her mind wasn’t even awake when she processed what she did last night. “Oh god.” She scrambled to find her phone. This could not be happening. This had to be some cruel joke the universe was playing on her. To her utter humiliation an unopened voicemail sat there.

Shauna froze with a start. She had heard countless stories where Person A would help take care of Person B after a surgery. And usually a clueless Person B would then spew out countless amounts of secrets and inner thoughts to a very clued in Person A.
Shauna could lie. She could go back into Jackie’s room and say, Shauna isn’t here. Tell me all those pretty thoughts in your head Jackie. Tell me the fucked up ones too. Let’s make sure we cover everything.
“I am Shauna, Jax,” Shauna decided to go with instead. She stopped at the edge of the bed, looking down at Jackie.
“No, that’s Shauna!” Jackie pointed to a photo on her dresser. A small framed photo of her and Jackie from a birthday party when they were younger. “That’s my Shauna.”

For her entire schooling career, Shauna had always topped every English class she sat – hell, she had only ever checked the rankings for the joviality of it, knowing it would be a much needed boost to her self-esteem. But, then again, who could she admit these wicked pleasures? No one. It was terrible.
If she maintained her position of second place, she was positive the thoughts of inadequacy would drive her mad. Besides, she wasn’t about to let some pretty soccer chick steal away the only thing she was truly exceptional at (which was a lie, because she’d actually been getting consistent A’s in practically all her subjects; but it was more romantic to paint herself as an idiot savant, than a polymath.).

TLDR; Shauna has a victim complex and creates a Disney Villian-esque plan to dethrone Jackie, because you can't be prettier AND smarter than Shauna (she might get a boner).
