Summary

On the eve of graduation, Wilhelm sent the queen an email expressing his desire to stay in New York for a few more weeks. With his schedule clear, he wrote, he could enjoy the city in his own time. He hasn't seen even a half of the Met’s exposition, he added.
“Of course, honey. Have fun,” — his mother replied, probably from a car taking her to a reception or an interview. Since the heat started and getting places became challenging, she did not check if Wilhelm had changed his mind. Maybe the queen was too busy to follow international weather reports. Or maybe she knew all along that the excuses her son offered were bullshit.
