It's only then that Hua Cheng actually turns around to get a look at Qianqiu's father—foster father, and when he does, he nearly drops his coffee again.

By the time they finished eating, Xie Lian had almost forgotten he was supposed to be investigating. Hua Cheng paid the bill before Xie Lian could even reach for his wallet (which was also suspicious—did he have some kind of notification system for that too??????)
As they walked outside, Xie Lian turned to Hua Cheng. “You know, this was nice. Two totally normal best friends having a completely normal lunch.”
Hua Cheng hummed. “Of course, gege.”
Xie Lian smiled. Then paused.

He squinted. “San Lang, did I pick this restaurant… or did you make me think I picked this restaurant?”
Hua Cheng smirked. “What do you think?”
