He had blushed like mad the first time he'd been anything more than polite in bed, and tripped over apology after apology as if that would make her forget his behavior. But it had been irreversibly branded in his mind. There was something steely and uncompromising under the gentle exterior of the boy that had kissed her so carefully in London.
Sometimes she wonders if Beck brought this out of him. Peter harbors a silent anger at the man that launched him into infamy. He is supposed to be better than anger. Or at least she knows that is what he feels. She sees the way he carries the burden of these feelings with some kind of misguided righteousness.
It is okay to be mad, she tells him. It is okay to feel whatever you feel.
He always reaches for her in those moments.
