Summary
The text—a brief, to the point ‘threw my back out’—couldn’t have prepared him for the sight that greeted him when he pulled up to Robby’s townhouse. ‘Threw my back out’ meant ‘I haven’t been able to move for an unknown amount of time and this is as close as I can bring myself to ask for help’. The text said, without saying, ‘if I called you might hear the pain in my voice and worry’ and God forbid anyone ever worry about Michael Robinavitch—as if Jack had done anything else in the weeks since Pittfest. But frowning at the sight before him as he got out of his truck, Jack wondered if he’d been worrying enough.

Summary
His therapist says he finds comfort in the darkness. And at three in the morning, listening to a police scanner to soothe his frayed nerves, maybe he’s right. It’s not that it’s quiet. Jack struggles with silence. It’s more that it feels realer. Honest in a way the day never could. Not when people wandered around looking their best and plastering on their best smiles.

Summary
Dana blows out a cloud of smoke, which Jack summarily waves away from his face with a faint look of distaste.
“I’ve known you two assholes for too long.”
It must be a revelation to the table, given the haughty look Robby offers her and the way Jack raises just one brow.
“That sounds like a threat,” Robby says, and briefly, he glances at Abbot, who merely shrugs, although it's not quite casual as he sets an arm against the back of Robby’s chair next to him.
“You know that if you bolt, I will find you, right?” Jack says, and it's enough to pull a laugh out of Dana.
“I’m counting on it.”
____________
An exploration of how Dana, Robby and Jack have existed over the decades they've known each other. Featuring the care and feeding of doctor ducklings, the mortifying ordeal of being known, weddings, funerals, highs and lows.

Summary
“I’m gonna monologue at you,” Jack said quietly, one finger going to tilt up Robby’s chin, forcing eye contact. Robby held it. “Unless you pipe up now. Gonna have a whole lot of me talking random shit.”
Robby shook his head infinitesimally, dark brown eyes boring up at Jack.
