“Uhm.” Hibari blinks as his lips stretch into an awkward grin, ignoring the obvious heat creeping up his cheeks. “Hi?”
Akina’s eyes widen before his face erupts into a dark shade of red, his hand reaching up to touch his own lips. With a mortified squeak, he lets go of Hibari and scrambles toward the bathroom and locks the door with a bang.
Hibari’s head hits the cold hard floor with a painful thud. He hisses, “Ow—Akinya, wait!”
Hibari’s turned into a cat after a successful jewel heist. For some reason, Akina finds him by the street and takes him home.

“I just…” He starts, tired. Everything is being laid bare now, but he thinks it should be okay, because it’s Kanato. “I wanted to protect someone else for once. Especially my soulmate… but no matter what I did, it just ended up with the both of us hurting.” He clenches his free hand into a fist. “Of all things to reflect such a beautiful bond, why did it have to be pain?”

Summary
“Here, take this.” Akina comes back into the room with towels in his arms and hands them over to Hibari. “I’m getting the shower ready, so just try to dry yourself out first.” A harsh, worried sigh escapes his lips. “Seriously, why did you think I would let you in?”
“Well, the light in the office was on, so I assumed you were still in here working.” Akina glares at Hibari, silently scolding him that it wasn’t an invitation to come inside through the window while it was raining. Hibari smiles anyway as he rubs a towel over his head. “And I know you can’t refuse me. You’re too kind for that, Akinya.”
Akina doesn’t argue back, but there’s a frown on his face, as if in thought. “Is that so. Is there anything else I should know about?”
Hibari tilts his head as he thinks of another reason. “...I missed you?” He is then smothered by a towel to his face.
Phantom thief Hibari gets caught in the rain after a successful heist with Volta. With nowhere else to turn to (after running around like a lost dog), he decides to find shelter in detective assistant Akina’s office.

Summary
“Hiba,” Akina says with a sigh as he opens the window. “We have a door. Do you really have to keep using the window?”
“What kind of phantom thief would I be if I just waltzed inside a detective’s office?” Hibari laughs at the incredulousness of the idea.
“Well,” Akina starts, leaning against the windowsill. “You can visit me as Nijidatoka’s vocalist, for one.”
Hibari harrumphs. “I’ve already been doing that! Besides, this is way more fun. Haven’t you been expecting me to visit like this every night?”
“I don’t.” Akina’s response is quick, but Hibari knows he’s lying because he turns to look away, a hint of red in his ears. Hibari laughs, and Akina pinches his arm.
Hibari is a phantom thief, and Akina is a detective’s assistant. What could possibly go wrong? (A lot of things do, but that’s okay. Hibari’s honest to a fault, and Akina doesn’t ever think of refusing him.)

Then, Freo glances from across the bar, eyes snagging on Kaelix’s for a beat that passes all too quickly.
Kaelix immediately straightens his back like he’s just been crowned the King of Standing. He tries to smile. It might be more of a grimace. He tries for an expression that says “cool and collected boyfriend just doing his job tonight” and not “feral creature spiraling in a leather jacket.”
(Kaelix spends the night grappling with New Boyfriend Feelings and Freodore is very, very fond.)

im literally so in love with this fic im eating my entire fist. the way knt was written just hits me right in the heart....... everyone in vlta expressing their love for one another in their own ways and how it's obviously well written here is so 🥹 i love these 4 so much 🥹
