What can he say? Daniel is a long-time monsterfucker. He loves the gremlin and everything about him.
There are so many things Daniel could say to that. Like how Louis could have left Armand in Paris like he’d originally intended to. Like how he only took him back to spite Lestat, even though he knew he’d played a role in Claudia’s death. Or like how Lestat also played a role in Claudia’s death. How he failed to save her. And yet Daniel knows Louis flies out to NOLA every other week to see him. Sure, there’s the mind-fucking thing, but Daniel has come to terms with that. He knows now better than ever that Armand had his reasons.
There’s so much Daniel would like to throw back in Louis’ face, but he doesn’t. Mostly because if any single one of the insane decisions Louis made over the last century had played out even slightly differently, Daniel wouldn’t be sitting here right now, sharing his best vampire existence with the love of his life.
The Butterfly Effect. Sliding Doors. All that shit.
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t come over there and kill you both,” Louis says.
Armand looks like he’s trying not to laugh at that.
“There’s no great law against hooking up with your friends’ exes, Louis,” Daniel says. “At worst it’s a violation of the human bro code.”
“Do you honestly believe, Louis, that I would have broken my five-hundred-year vow out of spite?” Armand says. “Do you truly think that in half a millennium, no one has provoked me to such a degree as Daniel did at the end of that interview? And that my solution to being provoked by him was to marry his soul to mine for all eternity, via a bond which you yourself admit can never truly be severed? Which you yourself described as making you feel as though you’re the only two vampires on earth? Tell me, who would I truly be punishing if that were the case?”
