“Tell me again,” Jackie says, barely audible. Her cheeks burn, and if it were anyone but Shauna, they wouldn’t have noticed the way her bottom lip quivered. “Please.”
“Oh, baby,” she says, her voice soft as velvet. “You’re so good, so perfect like this.”

Summary
Jackie snatches up the magazine and stares at it with bulging eyes. Nope, she thinks. This doesn’t mean anything. It’s only a date. Months and numbers stop mattering when you’re surrounded by indeterminate miles of pure, utter nothingness, so this month and number don’t matter to her one bit. Not anymore. She’s expired. She’s gone.
(Or: Jackie relives the day of the crash again. Then again. And again. She's going to fix this. She just has to be convinced that it's worth fixing first.)

Summary
“Don’t you dare ask me what took me so long,” Jackie says playfully, lips curving into a smile. There’s something tender in her tone. “You’d be stealing my line. Although…” And then her eyes crinkle. “…It wouldn’t be the first thing you’ve stolen that was mine, Shipman.”
What Shauna doesn’t know, but will find out soon, is that Jackie hasn’t cared about Shauna’s high school betrayal with Jeff in at least two decades now. She'd been trying to make a cheesy quip about her heart.
—
Shauna dies. But death isn't the end—not for Shauna, not for any of the yellowjackets—and Jackie has been waiting for her.
