"You're cheating on me again, you bitch?" Terry yelled, making Mandy shrink in on herself. She squirmed and tried to get away but his grip was too tight.
Mickey saw red. It was often that Terry mistook Mandy for their mom but this time, seeing him hold her in the same he way that he killed his mother, Mickey couldn't handle it. Years of abuse caught up to him and he was so angry in that moment it's a wonder he didn't explode like the time bomb he was.
"Get your fucking hands off of her," Mickey managed to grit out.

"Again, Ian?" Mickey asked. This was the third time he had come home to find Ian sitting like this.
"I don't understand any of this! Why do I need to know this anyway? It's not like I'll need to find x in the real world," he grumbled.
"Well..." Mickey seemed to think for a second but then shrugged in defeat. "Yeah, I got nothing," he said, making Ian laugh.
"I can teach you, if you want. I know some of this," Mickey offered, gesturing at Ian's book.
"Go ahead, try, but I'm hopeless," Ian mumbled. Mickey rolled his eyes at his boyfriend's dramatic flair and reached for the book, sitting beside Ian on the bed. He read through the page and snorted when he read through the questions.
"This is what's got your panties in a bunch?" Mickey shook his head disbelievingly.
"Hey, don't make fun of the less fortunate. Not all of us were born that smart," Ian huffed in annoyance.

Chicago, late 90s. Mickey is an aspiring singer and guitarist who stumbles across bassist Ian. After they each see the other one's talent, they decide to start a band together. But soon they start to realize that it's not just musical talent that has them interested in each other.
Heavily influenced by that musical era. You can find a playlist of some influential music here. Playlist will probably grow pretty regularly.
I have actually wanted to do a 90s AU for a long time now, but with the recent passing of Scott Weiland, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. The title of this fic is actually from a Stone Temple Pilots song called "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart," which is one of my fave songs by them (it's on the playlist).

Summary
One of Hollywood's hottest rising stars needs a little help with some real-life acting. Mickey has no desire to be in the limelight, but he's had enough fantasies about tinseltown's (via the south side) Ian Gallagher. So when Ian's management comes to Mickey with an offer, he can't refuse. Ian needs a fiance, and the club for queer kids in the south side that Mickey and Mandy are having built needs an endorsement and a cash influx.
It's a win-win for everyone. As long as Ian's ex-boyfriend stays out of the way. And as long as no one falls in love. Who knows? Maybe someone will have a happy ending by the time the credits roll.
