Summary
At first it sounds like a joke. "Talk less, smile more," Alexander teases, Burr's own words aimed back at him. But the context doesn't make sense for it to be just a joke, and there's something about the way that Alexander smiles and it doesn't reach his eyes that makes Burr pause and listen.

Summary
In the early 90s Vampires revealed themselves to the Human world in an even that would be later known as ‘the Reveal’. It had gone a lot better than people had predicted, with Vampires soon blending into society. Once an alternative for simply just drinking blood straight from the source was readily available for the vampires of the world, a new career had arisen. A human could become a Familiar to a vampire who had the money and status to afford one. This human would then be theirs to drink from and use as they pleased, to a certain point. This included sex or simply domestic needs like a maid or cook.
Having been orphaned at 14 when his parents had attempted to turn on their contraption they claimed to be a portal to the ‘ghost realm’, Danny is bounced around foster homes before moving to Wisconsin at 18. At 22, Danny is persuaded into asking his parents’ old college friend Vlad to become his Familiar (out of a need for money) in the hopes that maybe he won’t want to use him for anything sexual or strange.
