    Summary

“It’s a modern adaptation with two male leads, the Phantom and Christine. They want you for the Christine role, but they were very clear that they won’t even run the production if you’re not onboard”
Shane felt his breath catch painfully in his chest. There was only one person in the world he knew to be that arrogant. And it was the same person who knew that he couldn’t bring himself to turn this down.
    “... who’s playing the Phantom?”

    “Ilya Rozanov”

    Or:

Shane had never been good at the things he was supposed to be. But he was good at one thing, and that was the opera.
Perfecting the arias, learning your blocking, pretending wholeheartedly to be someone you’re not.
Shane and Ilya meet at 18 during a production of Don Giovanni, but neither of them can admit what they really want. That is, until Shane is approached by Ilya years later with an offer almost too good to be true. An opportunity to star on Broadway, in a role handpicked for him.
Staring alongside Ilya after everything between them would be difficult, but Shane can’t turn down the opportunity to see if the man he once thought he loved is still hiding behind a mask.

    Summary

“You should know, rook, you’re not alone out there…”
Scott let the words hang in the air between them. Shane was pointedly not making eye contact with him, but Scott powered on. It was now or never.
“That being said, you two should probably try to be a bit more subtle about it”
The shade of red that Hollander was turning would have almost been comical if it hadn’t been for the deathly stillness that had overcome him. Several emotions flashed across his face in quick succession before he must have realised he was being wayyyyyy too obvious, and he settled on a hard-fought look of confused neutrality.
    “I don’t know what you’re talking about”

    Or:

Scott Hunter overhears what happens in room 1221 and puts the pieces together. He decides to try and talk to Shane about it at the MHL awards that year. It goes as poorly as could be expected...

    Summary

He had known, deep down, that it had been a bad idea to ask Ilya to come with him this summer. Perhaps if he hadn’t been injured, lying in that hospital bed high off his face on pain medication, he wouldn’t have found the courage in the first place. But when Ilya walked in looking like he was one word from falling apart, Shane had relented and let himself hope, desperately, pathetically, that Ilya felt a fraction of what Shane did as Ilya stroked his face with the back of his knuckles, how he felt when Ilya had confessed that Shane’s injury had scared him. And perhaps if Rose hadn’t filled his head with stupid, romantic fantasies, he wouldn’t be standing in the summer breeze at his parents cottage, feeling the same way he had after leaving the Vegas penthouse all those years ago.

    Fuck.

    Or:
Shane starts to get anxious about the radio silence from Ilya following his invitation to the cottage. After a conversation with Rose, he finally reaches out to cauterise the wound and get an answer to the question he wished he hadn't asked. No one could have predicted what came next.
