He grips the front of his shirt, his breath caught in his chest. His lungs constrict quietly, and all at once he can't breathe—his fingers digging into his ribs, conflicted between trying to push air into himself, or letting it happen.
It hurts, the way he rakes at his body, at his bones. He thinks it hurts more than the way his throat dries, desperate for air. He claws at himself, his shirt tugging with the movement, and for a moment, the collar tightens around his neck, and it hurts.
