For a moment there was nothing at all to be seen on Scott’s face. Then something unfurled in his expression, and he started laughing, bringing up a hand to cover his mouth. “Oh, I see, I see. You’re a big scary vampire hunter, and I’m a vampire, is that it?”
“Well! Yeah,” Avid said. Scott might have him backed up against the wall, heart in his throat, but that didn’t mean Avid was going to just give in. “You’re not gonna take me without a fight!”
“Of course not,” said Scott, placating. “You’re a big bad monster hunter and you’re going to stab me with your stake, then? You’re going to pin me down and make me take it?”
“I—well—I’ll kill you,” Avid said.
“Right,” Scott said. He was still smiling. “You think you can get on top?”
Avid pays a visit to a suspected vampire. It goes about as well as could be expected.

Scott sat up so fast he sent a surge of water splashing onto the floor. “Etho?”
Etho sounded privately amused, the way he usually did. “Are you decent?”
“Sure,” Scott said. His heart was abruptly hammering in his chest. “Sure, yeah. Come on in.”

Summary
The fact that Jimmy had been exiled kept ringing, clarion and electric, through Scott’s head for the rest of the evening. Exiled! He’d found someone else who hadn’t appreciated him. Another group that had taken him for granted. Scott contemplated going over to the Southlands to find Martyn, to tell him off for abandoning Jimmy like that, or maybe just to laugh about it. Exiled. Of course it would be Jimmy who ended up exiled from his own team. That was why Scott was lucky he had Pearl, who wouldn’t kick him out no matter what he did. Because they were best friends, and that was how that worked.

Summary
Joel had been very firm in reassuring Lizzie that it wasn’t cheating, because he was okay with it, and their agreement had always been that it was okay to sleep with other people as long as they talked about it after and it wasn’t Scott. And anyway, in this instance it was Jimmy, so it didn’t even really count. The only stipulation was, Joel had decided, that if they were going to do it again, he wanted to be there. To show ’im how it’s done, he didn’t add, but he thought Lizzie could probably tell he’d wanted to. But she’d agreed, with a sweet little mischievous smile, and said she’d been thinking about it herself anyway, which was why Joel was now sat in a chair watching his best friend and his wife in bed together.
Except he was also tied up. Which had been Lizzie’s idea.

Summary
He thinks, particularly petty and vicious, that he’ll probably tell Scott to kill him, if it gets down to that. He’ll probably tell Scott to do it, and Scott won’t, because he’s honourable, and he doesn’t like to take from those who don’t have as much. Unless they take from him first, and then all bets are off. Which is the way Martyn likes him the most, when Scott lets himself be mean. Makes him want to be mean right back, the two of them sharpening each other.
or: Martyn returns to the Coral Isles to grovel. Scott makes sure he’s doing it properly.
