But most of all, he loved being able to make Kaoru feel safe. Safe enough to allow Kojiro to take control. Safe enough to slip into a headspace that wasn’t gripped by anxiety and doubt. He loved providing that safety.
So when Kaoru yelps as Kojiro drags him onto the bed, Kojiro feels like his chest freezes over. He suddenly feels like he’s watching his best friend crumple to the ground all over again and this time it’s his fault.

It’s 2:47 AM. Kaoru’s already been asleep for a couple of hours. Like, dead asleep. So, when he suddenly inhales a loud breath, bolts upright, and starts muttering incoherently, Kojiro actually startles awake.
“Hey, what’s up, what’s wrong-” Kojiro slurs out, rubbing his eyes as he sits up to check on his husband.
Kaoru looks at him, or at least he tries. One eye is shut tight, the other is squinted, just barely open. Clearly, he’s still half asleep.
