Summary
Vi fiddled with the key to her room with rain-slicked and cold-numbed fingers, jamming it against the wood somewhere between three and six times before it found the lock, clicking the door open far too gently. She thought about slamming the door against the wall for a split second, the urge itching against her knuckles, but then came *her* voice, and Vi's hand fell to her side.
“Good grief, Violet,” Caitlyn’s eyes were wide, their blue painting a pretty picture against the moonlight pale of her skin. Vi’s mouth tugged up, just a little, at the ever-so-familiar inflection of the words. Before she could even register it, Caitlyn was across the room, taking her face in her hands and pushing back the dark hair plastered to her forehead, examining her with that little furrow between her brows that Vi could trace in her sleep. Her voice came out in a huff that was hardly angry. “You must stop doing this to yourself. And- is that a cut? What happened?”

“You love her, yeah?” Vander said, and it almost wasn’t a question.
“Yes,” she croaked. There hadn’t been a single second of hesitation, or of questioning. Of course she loved Isha. It came as natural as breathing.
“And you look after her the best you can,” he ventured.
She nodded, biting her lip. Her wet lashes clung together.
“Then that’s all she needs from you,” he murmured quietly, “You’re doing great, kid.”
