Sasuke shoves him with his one hand. “Get your fucking hands off of me.”
It’s enough. It knocks Naruto back a step, breaks the contact.
Naruto lets it happen this time. His hands come up immediately, open, palms out, like he’s trying to show he’s not going to touch him again.
“Okay, okay—”
And that’s when Sasuke sees it.
It catches the light when Naruto moves. Just a brief glint, easy to miss if he wasn’t already looking right at him.
The ring.
(Or, Naruto gets engaged and Sasuke wreaks havoc over it.)

But Sasuke stopped lying to himself a long time ago, when Naruto uppercut the shit out of him and softly insisted for the millionth time that they were friends with a claim on each other’s pain, despite the missing arms, especially with the missing arms.
The arrangement was nice because of Naruto. He came back to Konoha each time for Naruto and Naruto alone.
Then Naruto went and got a girlfriend.

“You know the feelings I have for Sasuke…the bond we have,” Naruto begins. “It’s one of brothers, of comrades who love each other despite their differences.”
Naruto pauses, uncertain to continue as he chews his bottom lip. Yamato nods for him to carry on.
“But I don’t think the love you have for Kakashi-sensei is brotherly love.”
A deep blush rises from his neck up across Yamato’s cheeks. His pale, war-torn skin is now drenched in sunlight. He doesn’t know where exactly he was expecting this conversation to go, but it wasn’t here. He scratches the back of his neck, attempting a nervous laugh.
“Ah well,” he begins. “When on earth did you become so perceptive, Naruto?”
“Well, I do have the sage of six paths’ power, you know!”
