Enjolras approaches the end of his sophomore year with dread. There are too many things to do—planning for l’ABC. Renn Fayre. Papers. Reading week. Finals. His flight to Paris in August. But it’s hardly that, he knows—he isn’t the only signator of Les Amis de l’ABC, and his papers are mostly finished. He’s done Renn Fayre before. Reading week is fine. Finals will be fine. Paris will be fine. His French is fine—it’s hardly that.
This anxiety is nameless.
(The semester is ending, Renn Fayre is coming, and Grantaire is leaving. Enjolras is not okay.)

Ilya had thought it was dumb, when Galina suggested it. A code word for when his mental health was bad—he and Shane didn’t even have a code word for sex, and Ilya was regularly tying Shane to the bed and slapping his ass until it was as red as a tomato.
“Is there a reason you’re calling me?” Shane asks now, voice echoey over the phone. “Or is this part of your strategy to win our argument?”
Ilya swallows hard. “Constantinople,” he says.

Summary
Shane should be here right now, should be in Ilya’s house. Ilya should be teasing him about being picky while going through delivery options for food on his phone. Shane should be discovering that Ilya has ginger ale in the fridge and the protein bars Shane mentioned liking in an interview in his pantry. He should be making out with Shane on the couch, sneaking a hand into his pants, teasing him about whether they can beat the deliveryman and arrive before he does. Shane was supposed to spend the night tonight, the Montreal team not set to leave until tomorrow afternoon because of potential bad weather in the morning. Shane should be fed and showered and ready to curl up in bed with Ilya tonight.
But Shane is in a hospital.And Ilya is here.
He pulls up Jane in his phone again. He presses call.
“Hey, you’ve reached Shane Hollander-”
Ilya closes his eyes and lets Shane’s voice roll over him.

“Hayden felt sick as he saw Shane glance between them and his own phone in J.J.’s hand, taking in what was probably his worst nightmare playing out right in front of him. Because Hayden could see it, within seconds, the way his face closed off, went blank, like he knew exactly what was happening because he’d been dreading it for so long.
But his eyes, fuck, his eyes showed everything even as he went very still. The bone-deep profound terror was all there.
